Sessions II, Le Murate, Florence Italy 2015

Session II, is the second series of portraits from Session I, painted from memory. I listened to the audio recording of the original portrait session from life while rendering the person from memory. Each surface of this series was covered in charcoal, a material I used in previous works about memory, and then I painted in oil. Where the oil paint and the charcoal merge, the oil paint erased the charcoal and there are white fragments throughout the work. Much like our memories, these paintings are ideas of people and they have a lot of myself merged into them. We project our memories through our own lens and therefore change the reality of individuals. Our memories are layered and full of negative spaces where the information does not exist in our subconscious.
